Gaelic football has enjoyed a special standing in this community with several hundred players representing their community in the sport over the decades covered by this competition. These men gave huge commitment to the sport and the community they represented. These are your neighbours, grandfathers, fathers, husband’s sons and brothers. Take time to acknowledge them.

The Clonegal/Kildavin Veteran Players Group was formed in May 2013 to organise a celebration of the 50th anniversary of the commencement a Golden era in Schools Gaelic Games in the Community In 1963 the first of many Under 14 schools Gaelic Games County Championship was won. The combined schools of Clonegal, Kildavin and Parkbridge won both Hurling and Football titles in 1963 under the management of Clonegal School principal Ben Mulhall.
In the following years 1964,65,66,67, and 68 the combined schools went on to win three hurling and three football titles.
This Golden era was celebrated at a function in the Talbot Hotel Carlow on 19th of October 2013.
The group were so overwhelmed with the support it received for this venture that the project ended with surplus funds.
It decided to remain together, with the intention of trying to develop community activity.
Since its formation the group have:
Published two books based on interviews with older members of the community and chronicling a lost way of life.
The First book Lest We Forget was published in 2013 and the second A Backward Glance was published in 2014.
Copies of either publication are available from members of the committee
Since the successful celebration of the golden era in Schools Gaelic games a further celebration of Camogie successes in the community has been organised.
The group has undertaken the task of printing the local Lotto tickets for Kildavin Clonegal GAA Club and The Ben Mullhall Memorial Park.
A Community Remembers.
In the autumn of 2015 the Veteran Players group opened a season of rememberance with an exhibition of pgotographs and documents in the Spellman Hall Kildavin. The exhibits were generously donated by members of the community.
Such was the interest that the group scanned on a significant selection of the exhibits.
You may view them by clicking on link below

Because of the volum of material, it may take a few seconds for exhibit to load.
When it does you can view in full screen by clicking on the square with the directional arrows on the bottom right.
I December two memory walls were unveiled to commemorate deceased loved ones of members of the community. One wall was unveiled in Kildavin, in the Spellman Park Complex and one in Clonegal in the Ben Mulhall Memorial Park complex.
